SMTI installed a 1st generation gas heat pump water heater prototype in northeast Tennessee home. This “Alpha” prototype, which was initially developed and tested under a DOE grant, will provide valuable feedback regarding performance in a real-world environment. To our knowledge, this is the worlds’ first residential water heater-sized GAHP ever demonstrated.
SMTI is excited to announce we have been awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a gas-fired absorption heat pump for residential heating applications. With this grant, SMTI will scale up our GAHP design from 10,000 Btu/hr (residential water heater) to 80,000 Btu/hr.
